As several student unions are already bucking up for their forthcoming election campaigns, the Delhi University on Tuesday declared September 12 as the day of voting for the much awaited Students Union (DUSU) elections.
Registrar Alka Sharma issued a notice late evening on Tuesday with the entire schedule of the election. According to Sharma’s notice, the deadline for filing nomination papers is 3 pm on September 3 after which the final list of nominated candidates would be put up by 5 pm the same day. The candidates would then be given a day’s time to submit their bank drafts. The nominees must submit their bank drafts by 3 pm on September 4 to avoid disqualification. However, if any candidate wants to withdraw their name from the list, they can do so by noon on September 5.
The candidates would then have a week to roll out their campaigns as the voting would be done on September 12 from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm and 3 pm to 7 pm. The date, time and venue of the counting of votes are yet to be declared.
Sharma added in the notice that the dates are also valid for the Central Council elections. The DUSU elections will be held for the post of President, Vice President, Joint Secretary and Secretary.
last year, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) won the election occupying three of the four positions leaving National Students’ Union of India with only one position of Secretary held by Karishma Thakur.
