The newly appointed Vice Chancellor of Delhi University, Yogesh Tyagi, will join office on Thursday, filling the gap after a period of four months since former vice chancellor Dinesh Singh demitted office.  Tyagi was sent a communication on his appointment by the Union Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) through SAU where he was the Dean of Faculty of legal Studies.

“I am joining on Thursday. I have interacted with my colleagues and they have briefed me informally for now,” Tyagi told The Pioneer. He will join at 10:30 in the morning where the DU administration including the officiating VC Sudhish Pachauri would welcome him.

Unlike his predecessor, Tyagi is not taking up a residence at the DU. However, he will continue to live in his present residence at Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Tyagi has a PhD in legal Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University and llM in legal Studies from Columbia University. He said he is very positive and would invite ideas in making the university better.

Tyagi had taken time from the MHRD for “settling down his works and responsibilities” at the SAU, before beginning his new position.

“I completed all my pending courses with students at the SAU and did everything possible to satisfy their expectations from me...everyone is very mature there. Some work is still left but that would be managed,” Tyagi added. After Singh’s controversial tenure, the search-cum-selection panel had sent a list of candidates to UGC. The names were sent to MHRD who had recommended four candidates including Tyagi to the Visitor of the university, President Pranab Mukherjee.
