Though Armed Force Category (AFC) students and Kashmiri Migrants have five per cent reservation in admissions to undergraduate courses in Delhi University (DU) but they are not permitted to re-apply once they get admissions in a college after the release of the cutoffs.
For the students belonging to reserved (Kashmiri Migrants and Armed Forces) and General, OBC/SC/ ST/ PWD categories, Delhi University follows separate procedure for admissions to undergraduate courses. Unlike the procedure followed for the students belonging to general /OBC/SC/ST /PWD categories, the procedure for the admission prescribed for the Kashmiri Migrants and Armed Forces Category is discriminatory.
The university has total 54,000 seats for undergraduate courses including 2,800 seats reserved for the AFC. “This year, only 238 students have taken admission under AFC category. The remaining 2,562 seats are still vacant in the prestigious colleges in North Campus,” said a Delhi University official.
While the Delhi University provides equal chance to each student; students belong to General and other categories can select any college and course of their choice as per eligibility. As an illustration, the topper in the General/OBC /SC/ST/PWD categories students shall be offered all his/her options for the final selection.
However, in the case of Kashmiri Migrants and AFC category candidates, the topper is given a single choice. This implies that he/she is not offered the remaining options for final selection despite having the eligibility. The students under AFC category have questioned to the university officials that other category students change college and course many times than why system of allotment does not allow Kashmiri Migrants and AFC candidates to upgrade to popular colleges/courses, even if the vacant seats are available.
When asked about it, a university official said that, this year they had arranged second chance to Kashmiri Migrants. “As far as concern to AFC, the matter is being deliberated upon,” official added.
“We have addressed this issue to Registrar, Delhi University. There will be update, soon,” an university official said.
