The University of Delhi on Monday made it clear to prospective students that there is no way they can pursue two degree courses within the university. At the open day, officials said that while a student is allowed to do a part-time diploma along with a degree course, there is no diploma course offered in the university which is part-time. Students can only pursue a certificate course in languages.
Professor of Physics, Santa Krus, said during the open day session, “If students want they can pursue a part time course which is not a degree course along with their full time course in DU.” However,
DU doesn’t offer any part-time diploma courses. Thus, a student can pursue a part-time diploma from any other university, added Malay Neerav, Joint Dean of Student Welfare. However, there is a way out for students who want to do language courses. “A lot of colleges in the university like St Stephen’s offer privately organised certificate courses which students can pursue simultaneously with their degree courses. These certificate courses are run by individual colleges and not the university,” informed Neerav.
Almost 1,000 students and parents attended the fifth open day at North Campus. Other than queries regarding multiple courses, students from different State boards clarified a lot of doubts. Most students were unclear about the disadvantage given to them if they had less than 70 per cent theory component in a subject. Krus explained, “If a student studies a subject which has less than 70 per cent theory component in it then a disadvantage of 10 per cent per subject will be given to that student.” The university also upgraded their guidelines on their website on Monday.
