DU welcomes freshers

The first day of the fresh academic session at Delhi University on Wednesday was exciting as freshers stepped in the colleges.

The fifth cut-off list offers admissions in popular courses, including BSc (Hons) Maths, BCom and BCom (Hons) at several colleges for the general category.

While many colleges had closed admissions for various undergraduate courses, many courses like BA (Hons) Economics at Shri Ram College of Commerce (97.25 per cent) and BA (Hons) English at lady Shri Ram College for Women (96.25 per cent) are still open.

With the admissions still underway under the fifth cut-off list, colleges reopened for the new academic session after the summer break.

Excitement and nervousness filled the air as students took their first step to the world of higher education.

“After securing admission under the first cut-off, I have been preparing myself and looking forward to the first day of college. And finally the day is here.” said Akansha, a student of English Honours.

“I have always heard about instances of ragging from my seniors, now I am at the same stage. I hope the day goes well.” said Reena Chattwal, another fresher.

Though some colleges allowed parents to attend the orientation, others have a strict rules to not allow anyone except students.

Students from outside Delhi were also very eager and enthusiastic for their first day of college.

“I have been here for over a month now, the city has already started seeping into me. I hope I get used to the college soon too.” said Soma, an aspirant from Shillong.

Those with siblings already studying in DU said they had an advantage.

“I have an elder brother who is in the final year now. It is great he guides me… It also makes me feel better,” said a student, Aakash.
