The outgoing Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University (DU), Dinesh Singh Monday called for “unity” of colleges to represent the University. While inaugurating the first audio-link to the Delhi University Community Radio (DUCR) from the Indraprastha College for Women, Singh said the DU is one institution and radio can be a binding force in portraying its unity. The University is working on making its community radio available worldwide through internet.
“Delhi University is one institution and radio can bind it. We are one even if there are different colleges. After all, students are awarded a common degree which is produced by the Delhi University,” Singh said while emphasising on coming together of the colleges through mediums like the DUCR.
He said radio can be a medium using which students can bring together all aspects of this country. “India is a great nation and great things happen here. Portray this greatness through your University and you will taste the success,” he said.
The IP College is the first college of the University to produce live programme from its studio for the DUCR which was established in 2007.
“I have been told this link would be available worldwide after it gets a lead from the concerned agency. Students can produce different programmes including discussions with experts and opinions on the Government ventures. They may discuss Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat episode and express their agreement or disagreements,” principal of the college, Babli Moitra Saraf told The Pioneer.
Speaking about his long experience in the University, Singh defined the varsity to be all about India. “India is the essence of Delhi University while the University in turn is the essence of India. Move ahead with this belief because if you understand Delhi University, you will be able to understand India...” he added.
The Vice-Chancellor was on air from the IP College’s audio studio where he interacted with the students. He said that connecting the colleges of the University was his dream which would succeed with more participation. Saraf expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and DUCR officials and called it a “wonderful” moment for the college.
She praised Singh whose term is ending on Wednesday over the initiatives of Gyan Uday Express and Antardhvani Cultural Fest of the University.
