Students of Delhi University (DU) can finally hope to find redressal to their problems as the newly-elected Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) is planning to set up a suggestion box outside their office for all students next week. With BJP student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) now holding all positions in DUSU, reforms in the function of the union have already begun. According to president of DUSU Mohit Nagar, there will be a proper system to this grievance redressal with no loopholes.
“Students have always had lot of problems which need to be addressed. Earlier, the DUSU has been handling their problems through word of mouth. Nothing has ever been on paper. This system will ensure that everyone follows a procedure so that we reach a solution. Things need to be more streamlined,” said Nagar.
The newly-elected president studying in Shyam lal College said that there will be log maintained for these suggestions/grievances that students put in the box. “All ideas and grouses that students put in the box will be seen and logged in a book. This will ensure all problems are on paper and don’t get overlooked. Be it a small issue or a big one, each and everything will be jotted down,” Nagar explained.
A timeline will also be set for the problems. Nagar said, “Once all the problems are jotted down, they will be analysed. We will see accordingly for each problem how much time is needed to arrive at a solution. Based on that information, timelines will be set. There may be some problems which are beyond our control or which are unreasonable. Those will also be written in the log but it will be mentioned there that no action is being taken. If the complainant has mentioned his details we will also let him/her know.”
Nagar feels that this system will bring some kind of transparency in the functioning of the DUSU. Nagar along with the vice president Parvesh Malik, general secretary Kanika Shekhawat and joint secretary Aashutosh Mathur will be setting foot in DUSU office on Monday after a week of welcome meetings in various colleges across DU.
