All set to go for the Gyanodaya tour this year, Delhi University is making preparations to assure that the students adjust to the region they are being taken to. With North-East on the cards this year, the university is planning to offer short-term certificate courses in eight North-East Indian languages to students. According to officials, this will help students during the heritage tour to that region in December.

Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh said, “There is a proposal to offer short-term courses in eight different languages of the North-East which will include tutorials on basic working knowledge of the languages and not the detailed scripts. The Department of linguistics is working on details as well as structure of the course and we will have a POA soon.” From the entire university, 900 students get the opportunity to travel on the special Dharodhar-Gyanodaya Express from December 20-30. This year the students are being taken to the North-East to enrich them on the culture and heritage of the region. Prof Chandrashekhar, coordinator, Gyanodyaa Express said, “While DU has invited proposals from students regarding the projects they would like to undertake, the short-term certificate courses will give an opportunity to them to learn the languages irrespective of the tour.”
