A 22-year-old Delhi University student was stabbed to death on Monday night at South-East Delhi’s Ambedkar Nagar by rival gang members over ‘personal enmity’. His friend was also stabbed, but is recuperating in the Batra Hospital.
Police have arrested two people and apprehended two other minors. Alleging police inaction, victim’s relatives and neighbours blocked the BRT corridor near Ambedkar Nagar on Tuesday morning causing traffic chaos. Police said that the deceased was identified as Pankaj Kashyap, a second year BA student of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, who lived with his family at Madangir area.
“The incident occurred on Monday around 9.45 pm, when the deceased along with his friends identified as lekhraj and Yudvinder were returning from nearby Shiv Shakti Market on Pankaj's motorbike,” the officer added.
The victims were waylaid by a group of five, including two juveniles. After stopping them, they started abusing them. A heated argument broke out between the two groups which eventually turned violent. “Pankaj was caught hold by some of them who stabbed him 12 times repeatedly. Another victim, lekhraj, was overpowered by the accused and was stabbed by the third minor in his left thigh. However, one of the victims, Yudvinder, managed to escape,” a police officer said.
“A PCR call was made by the locals and the victims were taken to Batra Hospital where Pankaj was declared brought dead, while his friend lekhraj is recuperating. Based on the victim’s statement, a case of murder and attempt to murder was registered at Ambedkar Nagar Police station,” the officer added.
lekhraj disclosed the identity of the accused as Pradeep, a notorious criminal of Ambedkar Nagar, while the other has been identified as Rafiq (22), who was arrested by South district Police.
