A final year Delhi University student allegedly committed suicide at his house in South-West Delhi's Dwarka Sector 13 area on Tuesday.

Raj Aryan Tomar, a final year student of BA (Prog) at Motilal Nehru College was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his residence in Roadways Apartment in Dwarka Sector 13, while his parents and younger brother had gone to attend a wedding at Shamli.

In the absence of any suicide note, family members of Raj suspect that he ended his life because he was playing the Blue Whale Challenge on his cell phone.

A senior police officer on Wednesday said that at the crime scene, they found the cell phone of  Raj, but it was formatted.

"In the absence of a suicide note and because of his cell phone being formatted, we deny the suicide was the outcome of the deadly Blue Whale game. However, we are questioning his family and friends," said a senior police officer of the South-West district.

“Raj's father told us that when he asked Raj to accompany them to Shamli to attend the wedding, Raj refused, feigning illness,” he said.

"Moreover, in the absence of any injury marks on the body of Raj, we are so far ruling out Blue Whale challenge as the reason behind the suicide. We have sent his phone for testing," added the officer.

On Tuesday, Sanjeev Kumar Tomar, father of Raj rang up his elder son. "Since Sanjeev was in Shamli along with his wife and younger son, he called up Raj to ask about some documents. When Sanjeev called up Raj, his calls went unanswered. Worried, Sanjeev sent his friend to check up on Raj. The friend rang the door bell but that too went unanswered.  Following which, a call was made on 100 and a team from Dwarka North police station rushed to the spot," said a senior police investigator.

"On forcefully opening the main door, it was found that Raj was hanging from the ceiling fan of his room," said the investigator.

Raj's father works in a multi-national firm. After the death of Raj, police handed over his body to his family who then went to their native place, Shikohpur village in Baghpat district.

Meanwhile, another senior police officer said that once the family of Raj returns, they are going to question them again.

"We are also questioning Raj's friends."
