Delhi University (DU) which usually witnessed an unprecedented rush for admissions in the initial cut-offs, had interestingly almost double the number of cancellations compared to the total admissions made on Friday.
As per the data provided by the DU officials, about 2913 cancellations were made on Friday being the first day of admissions against the fourth and the penultimate cut-off announced on Thursday evening. Total number of admissions in various Undergraduate (UG) courses stood at 1596 only. Thus the total numbers of cancellations were almost double to that of number of admissions made in the day.
With this out of total 56000 seats available in the various UG courses across Delhi University colleges almost 43010 seats are already filled which constitutes roughly about 77 percent of the total seats in UG.
DU this year has planned to come up with only 5 "realistic" cut-offs for its merit based UG courses, however, in the backdrop of the fact that large number of cancellations are expected to be made in the coming days (fourth and fifth cut-off), which may lead to many vacant seats at the end, DU may come up with couple of additional cut-offs to fill these, a DU official said.
