An allegedly drunk diplomat from the Russian Embassy rammed his car into a police barricade in Moti Bagh and assaulted a traffic police on duty on Tuesday around 1.30 am, said police officials on Wednesday.
He allegedly hit a motorbike, injuring biker Naveen, who was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre. When asked to stop by police, he slammed his car into the barricade, said a senior police official.
An FIR under sections 186, 353, 332 and 289 of IPC was registered on Wednesday against the diplomat for rash driving and assaulting a traffic police on duty, said the official. However, the Russian official is not likely to be arrested because of the diplomatic immunity enjoyed by the foreign delegates.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has sent a case report to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for further enquiry into the matter.
Police are now trying to get in touch with the Embassy to start proceedings against the diplomat.
“He was so drunk that he could not control the car and he was practically unconscious. He was driving really fast and was unable to stop. His car is so badly damaged and this is proof of how hard he rammed into the police barricade. When police tried to get him out of the car, he refused to do so,” said the police official.
He later started arguing with police and allegedly misbehaved with constable Naib Singh who was on duty, added the police official.
