A local court handed rigorous imprisonment to Belraj Sheikh who supplied smack to Gulsher at Minto Bridge near Kamla Market in Delhi and said, “Drug addiction is an enigma to society. No leniency is required to be shown to the persons involved in drug business. It is paralysing society as a whole.”
While convicting the smugglers it said, “Drug addiction is a social menace which needs to be dealt with firm hands.”
After listening to the arguments, the court under various sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, (NDPS) granted 18 years of imprisonment to Belraj with a fine of Rs 3 lakh, while Gulsher was sentenced to 6 years of jail and a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
