Unveiling the new “modern” trains that will run on the Pink and Magenta lines, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said on Wednesday these new-generation trains are suitable to eventually run on Unattended Train Operation (UTO) mode, that is, train drivers will not be required to operate these trains and the Operations Control Centres (OCC) of the Delhi Metro system will directly regulate the movement of the trains
DMRC said for the unattended operation, stringent trials will be held, which generally take about one and a half years as per international standards and this feature may be rolled out only by the end of next year.
With multi-coloured seats for aesthetics, the new trains will also have higher acceleration and will be ten per cent faster in terms of journey time. “Usually, the six car trains have three motorised cars and three trailer cars. But in these new trains, there will be four motorised cars and only two trailer trains. This will ensure more power for these trains resulting in higher acceleration and higher schedule speed,” said a metro official.
These trains will also have various new facilities for the comfort of the passengers including WiFi service, digital route map, lCD screens with videos and graphics, improved air circulation, USB ports etc.
Additional noise reduction measures have also been implemented in these “modern” trains including improved floor design with high density ceramic wool insulation, wheels with noise dampers etc.
The trains are getting ready for operations at the Mukundpur depot, which itself is a modern depot, which will fulfill 100 per cent of its power requirement from the solar panels installed in the depot.
