'Dr Death did a macabre dance'

Mafia-turned-politician Dhananjay Singh’s wife, Dr Jagriti Singh, is ‘Dr Death’, say torture house survivors.

A third domestic maid employed by Jagriti Singh has been discovered, again bearing marks of torture, including scald wounds.

The maid, identified as Meena Sardar (35), had also been beaten along with Rakhi Bhadra and another 17-year-old juvenile who was employed in the house. While Bhadra succumbed to her injuries, Meena survived. But her injuries are so severe that she cannot even walk.

She is presently receiving treatment at Delhi’s RMl hospital, where a magistrate took down her statement. According to her statement, Meena was beaten badly and branded with heated iron rods. When it was discovered that Rakhi had died, Meena was bundled off to a residence of Dhananjay Singh’s friend so that police would not discover what had really transpired at the Singh household.

Meena recorded her statement under Section 164 of the CrPC. She said she was forced to drink the urine of the MP’s three-year-old son whenever Jagriti found him inconsolable. If that was not enough, Jagriti used to perform a macabre dance after beating the daylights out of her hapless maids and servants.

Jagriti had reportedly heaped scorn and humiliation over her employees, in her South Avenue flat, for the last 12 months.

The employees refer to it as a torture chamber where the MP’s wife used to flog them. Her cruel methods stunned investigators, building a watertight case against her.

In her statement, Meena, mother of five, claimed that whenever when the helps committed an error in the course of duty, the accused would thrash them with a stick, iron rod or anything she could lay her hands on.

Meena, who hails from 24 Parganas in West Bengal, claimed that Bhabhiji (Jagriti) indulged in a macabre dance while flogging them with rods and sticks.

She also revealed that a number of times, she, along with other domestic helps, had informed Dhananjay saheb that Bhabhiji used to physically assault them, but instead of upbraiding his wife, he slapped them with shoes; the helps recount at least two such occasions.

The victim also stated in her statement that whenever there was work lapse, Jagriti would chuck food into the trashcan and expected Meena to dumpster dive in order to feed herself.

“If there was an oversight, she used to force me to eat food she had spat on. We were not given food or water if we slipped up and were even branded with a hot irons,” she claimed.
