With the elder son battling for his life and the younger one behind bars in the Indian Premier league season 6 spot fixing case, the world is crumbling down upon the Chandila’s. The family is grief stricken as they scuttle between a Delhi hospital, where their eldest son Subhash Chandila is admitted and the police lock-up where Ajit Chandila, a suspended Rajasthan Royals player, is being quizzed by the Delhi Police.
The entire episode has also dented the image and reputation of the family in the village. The aggrieved family hails from Tigaon village in Haryana. Their brother Veer Pal, a local office-bearer of the INlD (Indian National lok Dal) party is fighting all odds to handle the situation. The Chandila’s are landlords and have till now enjoyed a clean reputation. However, the situation has changed as the youngest brother’s alleged involvement in the scandal has tarnished the image of the family. As his neighbours said the family of Ajit has been staying in Delhi and not come to their village ever since the elder son got hospitalized. The arrest of added to their woes. Their mother, who was heading the family after early demise of the father, has also confined herself.
“We are deeply saddened. This is a tough phase for the entire family. Subhash has not been keeping well since a week. He has been hospitalized and underwent a lung surgery only yesterday (Thursday). The charges against Ajit have shattered the family. It is very difficult for us to handle things at this time of crisis. We want him to be freed of all the allegations. However, we cannot do anything about it right now as we are waiting for Subhash to recover,” said Sonu, Ajit’s relative. So much is the distress that the family has not been able to hire a lawyer to defend Ajit in the court. “We will hire a lawyer and fight for him (Ajit) in the court only after Subhash is discharged from the hospital,” he said.
Adding to it, Dharamveer Pehelwan, his first cousin who is taking care of their household at present said, “There is a lot of turmoil. We are trying are best to handle things .However both matters take precedence over each other. We are in a helpless situation. We are praying for Subhash’s speedy recovery, so that we can fight for Ajit. Our government is a sham, here criminals walk free and terrorist are provided security but innocent people like Ajit are targeted and made a scapegoat. The truth will come out sooner or later but it will be a long battle.”
