In an unseemly incident witnessed at Thackerays’ heavily-guarded residence “Matoshri”, at Bandra in north-west Mumbai, a domestic servant was injured on Saturday night, when a fellow servant stabbed him with a kitchen knife. In a fierce fight that took place between two domestic servants — both hailing from Nepal, one Pandit sustained wounds on his body when his colleague Sevak allegedly attacked him with a kitchen knife. Also injured in the incident was a maid servant, identified as one Manda, who intervened in the quarrel between Sevak and Pandit. The incident, which came to light on Monday, created a sensation in the state political circles, considering that there is 24-hour surveillance in and around Matoshri, where Sena president Uddhav Thackeray lives with his wife Rashmi and two sons Aditya and Tejas.
“Matoshri” is a three-storey bungalow at Kalanagar, Bandra. While first floor-which late Bal Thackeray used to occupy - is now closed, the Thackerays live on the second floor. The third floor is occupied by servants working for Thackerays.
Eyewitnesses said that what began as banter ,turned to an exchange of barbs between the two servants and culminated in a physical quarrel between them. At a stage, Sevak allegedly whipped out a kitchen knife and attacked Pandit, injuring the latter. Maid Manda, who intervened in the quarrel, also suffered injuries.
“The incident occurred on the night of November 14 when the accused, identified as Sevak, tried to kill another servant, Pandit with a kitchen knife,” DCP (Zone VIII) Virendra Mishra said.
