Dogs to help cops in anti-terror ops

Published on:

Dogs are not only man’s best friend but they can also act as force multipliers, helping to neutralise the terrorist threats, and tackling the challenges posed by ever increasing counter insurgency operations.

The future of wars and anti-terror operations would not only be machines but also dogs, who when equipped with high-end cameras and digital devices will help in checking bombs, jamming terror equipment, and sniffing danger.

This was disclosed at the beginning of the two-day national canine seminar at National Canine Seminar titled ‘Canine as Tactical Weapon in Fight against Terrorism’ at National Security Guard (NSG) complex in Manesar.

Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for Home, who inaugurated the seminar, said that the dogs are best friends of man, and they have great abilities to help in combating terror.

He also said that requirements of NSG and other security forces would be met at the earliest as the Government wanted its forces to be sharpest.

On this occasion, an advanced technology which combines dogs and technology was also displayed in which two foreign dogs Frizzie and Beep showed how they could help the NSG and other security forces in checking terror.

Frizzie, the dog wore high- tech glasses and cameras and showed how he could help in video surveillance in highly complex spaces, and how he could be directed using the wireless to set up a jammer device and remove it if required.

On this occasion, in a separate function, the Minister flagged off :the NSG’s Motorcycle Expedition, 2017’ from NSG Campus, Manesar.

The Expedition team will traverse major cities of the country including NSG’s regional hubs at Gandhinagar, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata to cover a distance of 7000 kms with an objective of spreading a message of collective responsibility towards the fight against terrorism.
