Ghaziabad SSP Nitin Tiwari said that Dr Harpal Singh Shishodia, a resident of Vijay Nagar, left his home at 5.00 pm on Thursday to buy a cooler from Maliwara. At 5.30 pm, she got a call from him. The doctor told her that he had forgotten his mobile phone at home, and asked her to keep it safe, Nitin Tiwari added.

When the doctor did not reach home till late night, the family members started searching him and continued to contact at probable places throughout the night. But on Friday, the next day, his wife received a call on doctor's mobile phone. The caller asked the wife to arrange a cash of Rs50 lakh for doctor's release. The caller also warned her not to inform the police and snapped the phone after telling her to wait for the next call, added the SSP.

“On her complaint, we have registered the case. The number from which call was made has been put on surveillance,” said the SSP.
