A 32-year-old woman alleged that she was raped by a doctor to whom she had gone for a check up at his clinic in East Delhi's Jagatpuri area. Police on Tuesday said that based on the woman's medical examination and written complaint, the doctor identified as Dr Amit Rai has been arrested.
Police said that the incident happened on Sunday night in Sonia Vihar. When the woman came home late, on being asked by her family, she narrated her ordeal who then approached the local police.
A senior police officer said that as per the written complaint by the woman, Dr Rai had diagnosed the woman with Typhoid a few days ago.
"The woman, who also lives in Sonia Vihar, used to visit the doctor for her check up. On Sunday the doctor during the examination found her having fever. He told her that he will have to give her an injection. However, he gave her an injection laced with drugs which made her unconscious. All this he had done to her in a room inside his clinic in E block gali no 11. By the time, the woman regained consciousness, she found that she had been sexually assaulted," said a senior police officer.
The official further said, "The doctor, Dr Amit Rai, even threatened the woman of dire consequences if she reported the incident to anyone.”
The woman, who was in shock and in a dizzy state, somehow managed to reach home late on Sunday night.
A senior police official said that they have arrested the doctor and are questioning him to ascertain whether he had sexually exploited other female patients.
