A 55-year-old doctor was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 24-year-old patient inside his clinic in South Delhi’s lajpat Nagar.
According to a senior police official, the accused doctor has been identified as Sushil Munjal, a leading pulmonologist. Munjal was arrested on Saturday after the victim complained to police.
The victim, a resident of Karol Bagh area, was undergoing treatment for chest infection for the last several weeks.
On Friday, the victim reached the clinic around 8 pm for her regular check up but she was informed by the clinic staff that she was late and asked her to take appointment for some other day as the doctor’s shift was over.
The victim then called the doctor, who called her to the ground floor, saying he was available. Doctor Munjal’s wife — who is a gynaecologist at the same clinic — was not present in her basement office.
“The victim alleged in her complaint that the doctor took her to his chamber where he sexually assaulted her and threatened to defame her if she disclosed it to anyone. She stated that during the incident two staff members of clinic were also present in the clinic,” said a senior police official.
The scared victim after coming out from the clinic made a call to the police. “The victim made a PCR call from outside the clinic, a police team reached to the spot and took the victim to a nearby hospital for medical examination.
“The medical examination report of the victim has confirmed of rape. The doctor was arrested and sent to judicial custody,” said the police official.
