DMRC to cut down on announcements   after complaints

Witnessing a number of complaints from the passengers about excessive announcements in the metro trains, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has decided to cut-short the audio announcements made in the Metro trains on Magenta Line that connects Botanical Garden to Janakpuri. The process will start from Monday on a trial basis for three months.

Presently, 34 announcements are made both in audio and video format. But, now only seven audio announcements will be made during the entire journey of 7 minutes. Remaining, 25 announcements will be displayed in video format to comfort the commutes from excessive announcements in the trains.

“Only seven general announcements such as sitting on floor, suspicious articles and others will be made inside the train in both audio and video format during the entire travel time of the train on this Line. The other 25 announcements such as welcome to Delhi Metro, Use smart cards, deposit tokens and others will be displayed only in video format and there will be no audio announcements,” said a DRMC official.

Rest of the two announcements such as first car is reserved for ladies, male passengers do not board the ladies coach, and its direction and so on will be removed from the train but, will be announced at platform only at the stations.

“DMRC received number of feedbacks from the commuters as they feel inconvenience due to excessive announcements. Thus, these measures will reduce the number of audio announcements considerably inside the train but information will be available to passengers on video display. Moreover, all the mandatory announcements like next station, door opening side, destination station, and terminal station will continue to run as usual in both the audio and video formats inside the trains,” said the official.

If results are good during the trial, the Delhi Metro will further decided to implement the same on the Pink Line (Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar) after three months. However, this feature in all other Lines (Line 1 to 6) will be required to be tested separately as trains on those Lines don’t have the mechanism of video display for announcements, said the official.

Delhi Metro makes regular announcements inside its trains to inform passengers about departure and arrival  which are considered mandatory, whereas there are other announcements also which are made when the train is on travelling mode to inform about various passenger centric issues.
