Noida Authority and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the construction of new Metro corridor between Kalindi Kunj and Botanical Garden. The MoU was signed between DMRC Director-Business Development SD Sharma, and Noida Authority CEO Rama Raman.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had cleared the project in a Cabinet meeting on June 24. The Rs 845-crore project will be the second metro connection between Delhi and Noida. The cost of the project will be shared on 80:20 basis between the authority and the DMRC. At present, Noida City Centre is connected with Dwarka through line 3. The route will have three stations, Botanical Garden and Okhla Bird Sanctuary in Noida, and Kalindi Kunj in Delhi.

As per the plan, 3.962-km long elevated stretch between Kalindi Kunj and Botanical Garden stretch is expected to be completed by March 2016. The stretch will be a part of DMRC’s third phase of section on the 36.28-km Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden corridor (line 8).

This section — consisting of two stations — Okhla Bird Sanctuary and Botanical Garden, will directly connect the city with various important areas of national Capital such as Jamia Milia Islamia University, Kalkaji, Okhla, Nehru Place, IIT, Hauz Khas, R K Puram, Munirka, Vasant Vihar, Indira Gandhi International Airport-Domestic Terminal, Palam, Janakpuri among others.

The move is expected to put the project on a fast track as all the formalities have been completed. “As the work of the corridor of Delhi part is in full swing, tenders will be floated for construction of Noida part soon so the entire project could be completed within a fixed time-period,” added Rama Raman.
