DMRC MD will make site visit to Gzb Metro extension on Feb 10

After assessing the high profitability of Dilshad Garden-New Bus Stand in Ghaziabad Metro extension project and to expedite the speedy work on the project, the DMRC Managing Director Mangu Singh is scheduled to inspect the site on Monday, February 10. On his proposed visit, the project would initially be considered as ‘take off’ and the process of soil testing would start right away.

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) had indicated over a lakh footfall per day on the 9.71 kilometre stretch connecting Delhi and Ghaziabad. Even a conservative estimate reveals that the revenue generated is expected to be high. In fact, the footfall is expected to increase manifold, said GDA Chief Architect & Town Planner (CATP) SC Gaur.

When the project is operational in 2017, the footfall will increase further. According to an estimate, in 2021 the total footfall would add up to 1,28,000 per day. Hence, the revenue is expected to see an unprecedented growth from this densely populated area, added Gaur.

Further the project is feasible and cheaper as well since the alignment is elevated and straight and no hurdle in the way of civil work. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is expected to be signed in the last week of February. If all goes well, the Metro rail would start operations in 2017, said GDA Chief Architect & town planner.

“I had seen the traffic crisis during my term as the District Magistrate few years ago. The traffic condition is deteriorating by the day and I decided to appraise the entire situation to the new Government in Delhi. I was optimistic about getting our project through under the new Government in Delhi,” said GDA Vice Chairman Santosh Yadav.
