DMRC asks UDM to form panel to revise Metro fares

Published on:

Feeling the pinch of hike in electricity tariff, Delhi Metro has asked the Urban Development Ministry to expeditiously form a committee for revision of its fares. The last hike in DMRC fares had occurred more than three years ago, in November 2009, officials said.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) chief Mangu Singh has, in a letter to Secretary (Urban Development) Sudhir Krishna, noted that from August 1, the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission has hiked power tariffs.

He added that cost of other inputs have also increased which has affected the financial situation of the Delhi Metro. Officials said that this is the second time this year that Singh has asked for a raise in fares. In his previous letter also, Singh had mentioned the effect of inflation on DMRC's finances.
