DJB to adopt Singapore model of water supply

The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is mulling over introducing Singapore model of water supply to ensure adequate water to every household in the national Capital. The Singapore model has been a huge success in enhancing water supply through recycling waste water. DJB vice-chairman and AAP MlA from Karawal Nagar Kapil Mishra said he has initiated the process to implement Singapore model of water supply. The DJB has chalked out a programme to provide water connection to each and every household in the next three years. The Singapore model will come handy in doing so, Mishra said.

“We will start the new project based on recycling the waste water to increase the capacity of water. This model is being used in Singapore at present,” Mishra told The Pioneer, adding that with this project, there will be no shortage of water in future, Mishra added.

The DJB vice-chairman added that the board was ready with action plans to overcome the demand of water during summers. “It is for the first time that all the water treatment plants are functional and water supply will be maintained across the city,” he said.

“We are working on unauthorised colonies to integrate them in the DJB pipelines. The number of water tankers has been increased by 250 with GPS facilities and all the damaged pipelines have been repaired,” he added. Mishra also said that he was aware of the problems faced by the resettlement colonies. The DJB is concerned and it will be ensured that contaminated water was not supplied to the lower strata of the society.

However, Mishra also sounded a warning to the water mafia and said that their activities were under the lens. DJB has been asked to supply water by tankers. These tankers are equipped with GPS facility and even the public can track the location of water tankers. “This is the new idea in which people can monitor the location of water tankers and also the amount the water that has been utilised,” said Mishra.
