DJB: Haryana Govt supplying less water to Haiderpur plant

Published on:

Water supply in several areas across South, South-West and New Delhi regions has been affected since the past few days. The reason, according to the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), is less water supplied by the Haryana Government to the Haiderpur water treatment plant, which caters to these areas.

The Haiderpur treatment plant itself produces 210 million gallons per day. Since several weeks there has been a shortage of about 20 MGD during the day in the WTP because of which water supply was hit in certain parts of the city. “Production in our WTP at Haiderpur is suffering because we are getting around 20 MGD less water from Haryana. The neighbouring State is building a culvert on the western Yamuna canal. While their work is on, they have built a kachcha canal at Khera Khurd to supply water to the WTP. But the canal is so weak that it cannot take the load of the amount of water that we get from them. We have written to Haryana a number of times, the last one being on July 22, but of no avail,” said Sanjam Chima, Consultant (Public Relations), DJB.

In the past too, Delhi has accused Haryana of reducing raw water supply to the Capital while Haryana has defended the action, claiming it had adhered to norms. “There was no water supply today. I went to office without taking bath. My family had to manage all household activities without any water,” said Surbhi Prasad, a resident of Munirka village.
