DJB engineers protest over suspension of colleagues

A group of Delhi Jal Board (DJB) engineers on Thursday held a protest over the suspension of DJB engineers by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal last week during agenda meeting. A senior DJB engineer official said their fellow engineers were humiliated by the CM during a meeting to review water supply situation in the Assembly constituencies of all the MlAs.

He said, “The CM misbehaved with the DJB engineers and DJB Water Member RS Tyagi. Kejriwal used vulgar words for the officials and abused Tyagi in front of his subordinates. Now, our demand is that the CM should apologise and revoke the suspension orders of our fellow DJB engineers,” said a senior DJB engineer.

On Friday at 4.00 pm, DJB engineers are going to hold a protest against Kejriwal at Raj Ghat which will be followed by sending a memorandum to the CM at his office.

An official said, “If our demands are not fulfilled within 48 hours, we will protest outside Delhi Secretariat following which water supply may also be affected from Monday.”

Ironically, the Delhi Water Minsiter Kapil Mishra will hold a review meeting on the issue at the same time when these agitated DJB engineers will protest against the CM.

According to the DJB official, instead of patting the back of DJB engineers’ team for showing remarkable performance in a time bound manner in the recent water crisis in Delhi, CM abused them.

“Any review/ agenda meeting is always pre-planned. last week, the CM called for a meeting along with his MlAs without any prior information,” said the official.
