Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Friday said the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has desilted Pul PehladPur, 3.5 km sewer line, which is one of the hotspot during monsoon.
The Pul Prahladpur railway underpass, which gets flooded during monsoon every year and has claimed two lives since July 2021, was shut down for vehicular movement on both the carriageways soon after rains began last week.
"The DJB has again cleaned its 3.5 km long sewer line so that the rain water does not stop on the bridge Prahladpur. Last week, the entire line was blocked by the mud which was washed away by the rain water which has now cleared," Sisodia also tweeted.
Meanwhile, to deal with the water logging issue at Zakhira underpass, amid ongoing monsoon season, the Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia has written a letter to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw urging his intervention to resolve the issue.
Sisodia said that waste from railways is the major reason for Zakhira underpass water logging during monsoon.
"Delhi Government has taken several steps to resolve this long standing problem of waterlogging at the underpass but due to the waste from the existing railway line at the site and no de-silting of the railway downstream pipes, all the waste flows into the underpass which leads to choking of pumps there and extreme waterlogging," said Sisodia.
"In this regard, on June 20, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Principal Secretary, PWD, city Government with the officials of other agencies including Railways," said Sisodia.
"Railway officials were asked to get the size of downstream pipes increased, remove the waste on the railway land, de-silt the culverts and pipe drains laid by the railways as well as remove encroachment from the railway land.
“Railways was also requested to remove the encroachment on its land in this respective area," he said.
"Now that the monsoon has already arrived, still no action has been taken by the railways to resolve the issue," said Sisodia.
In his letter to Union Railway Minister, Sisodia had urged him for immediate intervention and timely action, so that the situation of waterlogging can be prevented.
"People face a lot of inconvenience during monsoons here and sometimes it gets life threatening. To solve this problem, the PWD Department of Delhi Government discussed it with other stakeholders including Railways but nothing has changed," said Sisodia in his letter.
"It has been observed that a lot of garbage and rags are spread all around railway land, due to which the size of culvert has decreased from 2 sqm to 0.44 sqm but still the desilting and cleaning has not started," Sisodia wrote in his letter.
