With the growing numbers of foreign visitors to Dilli Haat, its administration has decided to formulate a committee to check the authenticity of the craft products. In September, Dilli Haat has recorded above five thousands foreign visitors.
"In order to ensure that visitor will buy the authentic stuff from Delhi Haat, we are planning to make a committee. The members of this committee will be the people who can identify the originality of items," said Chandermohan, senior Chief Manager, Delhi Haat. "We will also try to ensure the credibility to the artists who are on the committee," he added.
Delhi Haat is a popular destination of art and craft lovers and with the growing numbers of visitors and shops.
Martina, a translator, working with US Embassy said with the changing weather she comes to Delhi Haat for the popular winter shawl Pashmina. " Delhi Haat is the place from where I can purchase the authentic warm shawls but there are more than 30 stalls of Pashmina shawls. I am not the user of Indian wools, it is difficult here to identify the authentic Pashmina," Martina added.
like Martina, there are many visitors who come to Delhi Haat to buy the authentic, ethnic stuff.
Delhi Haat has many stalls which sells the Pashmina and other handicrafts accessories. But Pashmina and Madubani paintings have huge market. Not only foreign visitors but Indian visitors residing in North India, too visit Delhi Haat to get authentic accessories.
"I heard that the stuff which is being sold here is crafted by the people of rural India. The handmade paintings and the craft work is on the fabric not only shows the creation but bring out the connectivity of the art with respect to the place," said Radha Iyer, a visitor.
Santosh Kumar, an artist from Madubani, Bihar, who makes the worldwide famous Madubani paintings said for a normal visitor it is hard to find out the original Madubani painting here.
"Whosoever comes here to buy the Madubani paintings should know that in every real Madubani painting the artist draws double outline, the painting with double outline and filled with natural color is the real Madubani Painting," Kumar added.
