In the run up to the Assembly elections, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday lauded her Government’s contribution to women’s empowerment in the Capital. “In order to accelerate the process of women empowerment, the city Government provided 50 per cent reservation in the three Corporations, which helped women in taking lead roles,” said Dikshit, while addressing the Congress Women Workers meeting at Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee.

Complimenting women for their efforts in the development of the city, Dikshit urged women workers to start door-to-door campaign for the ensuing elections. “The women have been contributing substantially at home as well as the outside world. The Delhi Government was the first to initiate laadli, a scheme dedicated to the girl child that helped in improving the gender ratio,” said Dikshit.

“Their (women’s) contribution at home and at workplace is not at all evaluated. Even their efforts and contribution are not being recognised. Our Government has set up 140 Gender Resource Centres, which have been making women from vulnerable sections trained enough to contribute to their family income. My Government has tried to empower women by implementing Dilli Annashree Yojana as also the Food Security Scheme and the benefits would percolate down through the female head of the family,” the CM said.

“Further, my Government has been providing relief to women in registration of properties in their names. They are being charged 2 per cent less on stamp duty. Only the Congress Government would allot low-cost housing in the name of women as first owner," Dikshit added.
