The Crime Branch arrested six people and busted a Dhol Baaz gang which used to steal luggage of the travellers in and around Nizamuddin Railway stations.

According to police, the accused has been identified as Devender (34), Mashkoor, Babloo (34), Vicky Choudhary (32), Rajan Aggarwal (38) and Kuldeep Soni (42)

According to senior police officials, the modus operandi used by the gang was to dupe railway passengers who did not report the matter to police. “The accused used to lure railway passengers into cheap auto ride before escaping with their luggage,” said police on Friday.

The gang was busted after their mastermind, Pramod, was apprehended red handed outside the Nizamuddin Railway station.

A senior police official said they have received information about several gangs operating in the Railway stations, who lured the passenger in one way or another and escaped with their belongings.

“Information was received by one Head Constable that  one gang led by Pramod  operating  in Nizamuddin Railway Station, would be coming to the bus stop near Nizamuddin Railway Station,” said a senior police official.

Police said on November 21, the gang had duped a lady of Rs 5 lakh jewellery. “During sustained interrogation, the accused disclosed their modus operandi. It  was Devender who was driving the auto rickshaw with Mashkoor and Vicky Choudhary as passengers approached the lady, who was looking for  an auto.  They told her that as they were also going to the same destination, they would charge only one third of the total fare.  As soon as she sat in the auto, another member of the gang stopped the auto by waving his hand, entered the auto and fled with  her money,” said police.
