On the second day of Durga puja, a large number of devotees gathered across the pandals already decked up in their glory and streets lined with stalls selling toys and confectionaries in the national Capital.
Starting from October 1, the Durga puja will be celebrated till October 5. The spirit of the festival has already gripped the people of Delhi including those living in Chittaranjan Park, an area known for its sizable Bengali community.
The Chittaranjan Park Kali Mandir Society, which organises one of the biggest Durga puja festivals, saw scores of people visiting the temple and taking their time relishing the beauty of the pandals, ornately decorated as some of them are.
This year, the pandal in Chittaranjan Park is a replica of a typical traditional house in Kolkata. Stalls for food, sarees, and toys, which saw a heavy footfall on Sunday, have been set up in the cooperative ground and cultural programmes have also been planned for the first time in two years.
Jagriti Mukherjee, who resides in Ghaziabad and a visitor at CR Park Durga Puja said, “People from all the community do visit at CR Park and they usually book hotels and rooms in advance. Even I also booked a room here to stay as close near the pandals.”
A Durga puja pandal in K-block of CR Park is designed with paper, cardboard, wooden disposable spoons and rice husk. On Minto Road, the devotees in huge number visisted the pandals and celebrated. The Minto Road Puja Samiti has been hosting Durga Puja for decades.
Another devotee Pinak Dhar Chatterjee said that one can enjoy totally Bengali food at CR Park market-3. “The flavours of Bengali food is totally actual. Roshogollah at various sweet shops are very delicious,” Chatterjee added.
The Durga Puja is also being held at South Delhi’s Kali Bari, Arambagh, Janakpuri, Karol Bagh, Kashmere Gate (Bengali Sr. Sec School), Timarpur, Dilshad Garden, GTB Enclave and several other places across the city.
