Ahead of the Delhi municipal elections next month, the residents of Pashim Vihar South, the ward of Sanjeev Nayyar, the Mayor of North Delhi Municipal Corporation are riding on a Modi wave. The people of the area asserted that they are mainly driven by the developmental agenda which “can only continue under strong leadership of Prime Minister Narender Modi.”
The Pioneer visited Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillor Nayyar’s ward no 39 to know the mood of the people. While a majority of the residents lauded the work initiated and completed by Nayyar, few of them felt the initiatives taken by the BJP were only in view of the upcoming polls.
Tanishka Gupta, a student of Delhi University and residents of Paschim Vihar said: “We do not have any problem in the areas. I once visited Councillor at his residence and requested him to ask sanitation workers to clean drainage as water got accumulated in front my house. He listened carefully and the very next day it was cleaned.”
She also praised several policy decisions taken by the Central Government claiming that they are benefiting people directly or indirectly at local level also.
“I will cast my vote keeping in mind the Central leadership. Swachhch Bharat, demonetisation, and skills development initiatives have shown the way to several Governments at State and local level. I believe that the policy should be made at top and implemented by local Governments, she added.
Most of the people in A and A-1 block said that major issues including drain cleaning, sanitation and prevention of deadly diseases like dengue, chikungunia were addressed by the Mayor very effectively. “What do we want moreIJ asked Rahul Bansal, a resident of AB block, Paschim Vihar.
The councilor has introduced open gym in the parks which the residents claim to be “very helpful”. The area is also known for its clean environs. The garbage collection is note timely by the concerned officials of the MCD. “We don’t have any idea about the funds used by the local councilor for area development but we are accessing all the facility in our area including well developed parks to proper sanitation,” said Sanjay Parasar, a shopkeeper from A block.
“Our children like visiting parks to enjoy all the new gym equipment. Sanitation workers visit the areas regularly and even garbage are picked by garbage van. I am personally very happy as all the initiatives ware fulfilled in our ward.”
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) which is trying to make inroads in the Delhi MCD has established a cord with the people through initiatives like Mohalla Clinics that provide free treatment and medicines to people.
Yogesh Bansal, an employee with a multinational company in Gurugram and resident of A1 block Paschim Vihar said that although the incumbent Councillor has done a great job in the area but the initiatives of AAP like the Mohalla Clinics “cannot be ignored.”
Some of the residents also accused the present Mayor of doing the job just to “woo the voters.” The big public gardens are being repaired and beautified just before the elections and small garden inside the interior are still left untouched. Some of the parks are now used for dumping garbage, they alleged.
