Develop satellite towns to ease pressure on Delhi: CM

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday stressed the need for developing more government hospitals and educational institutions in NCR towns to ease the pressure on the Capital.

Voicing concern over influx of students and patients from neighbouring States to Delhi, Dikshit asked the NCR Planning Board and Union Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath to devise an action plan for providing quality services in the satellite towns.

“Delhi being the hub for super-specialty and advanced treatment has to bear a heavy burden of patients from neighbouring States,” she said. “Hospitals located in NCR region, adjoining but outside Delhi, should be upgraded in capacity and service quality and profile to provide advance treatment so that there is rational distribution of patient load,” Dikshit said.

The Chief Minister, who along with lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna, Chief Secretary DM Spolia and other senior officials was attending the meeting of NCR Planning Board, said: “Uttar Pradesh and Haryana Governments must commission more and more Government hospitals with advanced treatment facility, and similar actions were also needed in the field of education.”

During the meeting, the issue of Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) was also discussed, and it was decided to set up a NCR Transport Corporation. A proposal to this effect would be put up before the Cabinet meeting soon. The alignment for 111 km long Delhi-Panipat, 180 km long Delhi-Alwar and 90 km long Delhi-Meerut RRTS has been finalized.

The Government has decided to appoint a financial consultant to suggest formulation of sharing of investment between the stakeholders. The total cost of three routes of RRTS would be `72,000 crore.  The lines are likely to be commissioned in 2016.

The NCR Planning Board has given its approval for setting up of two Multi-modal Transit Centres at Kashmere Gate and Anand Vihar. Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda demanded that the Centre should bear 90 per cent funds of the project, while 10 per cent fund should be borne by States.

Diskhit also asked the NCR Planning Board (NCRPB) to come out with a set of guidelines for disposal of waste from Delhi in collaboration with Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, as the city produces 9,000 metric tonnes of solid waste per day.
