South District police on Sunday claimed to have cracked the murder case of a woman whose decomposed body was found in Neb Sarai area. Police have arrested her 32-year-old live-in partner on charges of murder. Her body was recovered from a room on September 17 after local residents complained of nauseating stench was emanating from the room.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) South district Prem Nath said the woman was identified as Seema. She was in a live-in relationship with the accused for the past five years. Investigations revealed that the accused murdered her because he wanted to get rid of her as she pressurised him to carry on with the relationship. Seema was a short-tempered woman who fought with him over petty issues and the accused just wanted to move out of the relationship, the DCP added.
The accused, identified as Pankaj Kumar Vishwakarma, a native of Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested from Munirka area after he arrived there to take money from his employer and also enquire about the progress made in the investigation. He worked at a welding shop in Munirka. The accused was constantly shifting his hideouts in Allahabad, Agra, Mathura and Vrindavan to evade arrest, the DCP said.
With the help of criminal intelligence network, Vishwakarma’s whereabouts were identified. Raids were conducted at his residence in Allahabad and at other possible hideouts in different cities but he managed to hoodwink the police. He was finally arrested from Munirka village as police had kept a watch at his employer’s premises. The accused confessed he had met Seema while he was Mumbai and they entered into a relationship. They moved to Delhi five years ago and started living together in a rented flat.
“Seema’s nature was impulsive, dominating and very demanding in terms of her financial needs. Being a worker with a monthly income of just Rs 12,000, Vishwakarma was finding it difficult to fulfil her demands. They fought over this quite often and Vishwakarma was desperate to snap ties. He killed her on September 15 and then escaped after locking the room from outside,” police added.
