While justifying the hike in power tariff in the Capital on Friday, the DERC also suggested a slew of measures to the Discoms to contain the Power Purchase Cost and reduce the burden on consumers. These include surrendering of costly power for the period when it is not required.
The commission said Sasan ultra mega Power project, which has a levelised tariff of `1.19 per unit, has commenced operations and started supplying to Delhi.
“Its additional units are expected to be ready by this year. This would result in reduction of the Power Purchase Cost,” the regulatory body said.
The commission has also prepared and issued Cost Data Books to the Discoms to ensure that the capital expenditure by them is kept within reasonable limits as per current prevailing market prices of various electrical items.
The DERC also emphasised on the proposed pooling of coal cost between domestic and imported coal that could reduce the fuel cost at several power generating units from which Delhi receives bulk of its power entitlements.
This would have downward impact on the cost of power procured by the distribution companies. The Discoms should also take various Demand Side Management (DSM) measures which will have the impact of reducing the peak demand of Delhi and consequently reduce the purchase of costly peak power.
Meanwhile, the DERC has provided Rs 20 lakh for the Electricity Consumer Advocacy Centre with the PG cell of Delhi government and Rs 50 lakh for charges towards third party metre testing.
