Facing all-round criticism for its failure to curb dengue deaths, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Thursday claimed that none of the ten deaths reported on Monday were due to dengue.
In a report issued on Thursday, the Municipal Commissioner PK Gupta said all deaths reported from Shahbad area of Rohini were due to other afflictions.
He said verification of the cause of death revealed that the deceased persons were suffering from other viral fevers or diseases like acute pancreatic infection, lung diseases, TB and even typhoid. “Out of the 10 cases verified till now in the Shahbad Dairy area, not a single death has resulted from dengue,” said the report.
The report has identified each of the 10 patients and the cause of death. “Thirty nine-year-old Ram Dasharth Giri died due to Military TB while Hasina (30) died of lung infection,” stated the NMC report.
However, the number of people affected by dengue is multiplying rapidly everyday. The latest report by the civic authorities has confirmed that the number of dengue-hit patients has gone up by 374 in six days. “On September 21, the number of such patients was 1,355 while it was 1,729 on Thursday,” stated the reports by the Municipal Corporations.
Expressing concern, Additional Commissioner (Health) assured that the Corporation will station two mobile dispensaries in Shahbad Daulatpur and one each in Buddh Vihar and Kirari.
In the wake of the same issue, the NMC had on Monday suspended two of its officials — Deputy Health Officer and Malaria Inspector — while confirming two deaths.
