The Haryana Police on Monday constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the death of seven-year-old Adya Singh, who was undergoing treatment for dengue at the Fortis Hospital in September for which her parents were charged a whopping Rs 16 lakh before she died.
"We have formed an SIT, headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), East, Kuldeep Yadav, to probe the matter from all possible angles. More sections of Indian Penal Code will be added in the FIR as the investigation progresses," Commissioner of Gurugram Police Sandeep Khirwar said. "We have asked the hospital administration to provide all details pertaining to the treatment of the child," Khirwar added.
The Haryana Health Department had on Saturday filed a complaint against Fortis Hospital after which an FIR was registered under Section 304(2) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Sushant lok police station in connection with the death of seven-year-old girl.
Adya's Father Jayant Singh had also filed a complaint against Fortis Hospital and Dr Vikas Verma on Friday.
A four-member panel, headed by Rajiv Vadhera, which had probed the child's death and subsequent billing of her parents to the tune of around Rs 16 lakh, had found many irregularities in functioning of the hospital.
Earlier, Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij had said that criminal sections would be added on the basis of irregularities found in investigation report such as overcharging for medicines, forged signature, not providing ambulance on time, overcharging for platelets transfusion, ignoring norms of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Medical Council of India (MCI), and violation of treatment protocol.
The Minister had said appropriate action would be taken against the hospital management on the basis of the report. Those found guilty would not be spared at any cost.
The case came to light after Adya's father Jayant Singh's friend posted it on Twitter on November 17, recounting how the family was billed Rs 16 lakh but the girl could not be saved.
