2 Manipur youths thrashed by bikers
In yet another incident of mindless attack on North-East people in the Capital, two youths from Manipur were brutally attacked by a group of bikers in South-East Delhi’s Ambedkar Nagar area. The incident occurred around 8.30 pm on Sunday when the victims were returning home from a nearby market in Madangir. They were waylaid by the unknown bikers who singled them out and beat them mercilessly with sticks.
The victims were later taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre where one of the victims is stated to be critical while the other victim was discharged after first-aid. Police have arrested one person identified as Ritesh, alias Anda (18) and apprehended two juveniles. All three accused are residents of Dakshinpuri. A case of wrongful confinement and simple hurt under Sections 323/341 of IPC was registered at Ambedkar Nagar police station. Senior Delhi Police officials were tight-lipped about the incident but were quick to discount it was a racist attack. Based on a supplementary statement, Section 3 of the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities act was also added.
Police said the victims identified as Ginkhausuan Naulak (24) and his cousin Vusuamung Naulak (25) reside in Madangir. The incident in question took place on Sunday night when the duo went out to the market to buy food. Describing the incident, Vusuamung told The Pioneer both of them first went to buy chicken and then were walking towards a betel nut shop. “We were standing near the shop and smoking when two bike-borne miscreants passed by abusing us. We ignored them but they returned to beat us up. They hit me on my groin and I doubled up in pain. They then turned their attention to my cousin and beat him up as well. When I gained consciousness, I saw half a dozen men towering above me with sticks,” he claimed. According to Vusuamung, the miscreants continued hitting and abusing them and no one came to their rescue. He said his brother, who was lying a little distance from him, was bleeding profusely. “I dialled 100 on my phone. I also called up my cousin at home. He along with few friends came and took us home, where I washed my wounds and changed my clothes but Ginkhausuan did not gain consciousness. We took him to AIIMS Trauma Centre where police was informed by the doctors,” he added.
Ginkhausuan works as an insurance agent with the National Insurance Corporation limited and Vusuamung is a transcriber with a private firm. Speaking about the incident, Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi said a case has been registered and a fair probe will be carried out.
Police sources revealed a PCR call was first made around 11.03pm by a local but by the time the police reached the spot no one was there. The doctors at AIIMS made a PCR call at 5.15 am on Monday. “It was only when we reached the hospital that the victims told us about the altercation. The victim in his statement told police not to take any legal action against the accused,” informed sources.
