Delhi zoo family got just bigger! A hippopotamus gave birth to a baby hippo on Saturday. However, the celebrations were interrupted for a while after the father of the newborn created ruckus after it was shifted into another hedge.
According to zoo officials, the male hippo became angry about being separated from the baby child and attacked on other inmates at night.
In this attack another male hippopotamus was severely injured on its back, stomach and face.
“Now, the male hippo has been united with his family. And zoo has made special arrangements for the treatment of wounded hippo,” said zoo official. A doctor from the private hospital has been called and the treatment has begun. The hippo is being given injections and turmeric to protect him from further any infections and faster recovery,” he added.
Zoo officials had earlier said that special arrangements have been made to take care of the newborn and proper diet is being given to the mother. A doctor has also been appointed specially for the baby hippo to protect him from any kinds of ailments and infections.
The zoo visitors are enjoying the sight of the baby hippo playing with his family. The newborn is also attracting many visitors to the zoo. People were seen shouting and teasing the animals to grab their attention or to wake them up.
