Delhi Government's priority is to give villages better facilities and stronger infrastructure, with opportunities comparable to those in urban areas — CM Rekha Gupta

Residents of Delhi’s villages who have waited years for better roads, buses and water lines were told on Sunday that work is gathering pace. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta listened to the 139th episode of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Mann Ki Baat” with residents at the Municipal Councillor’s office in Khera Kalan, Outer Delhi. She then spoke about development in rural Delhi.

The Chief Minister said basic problems in the villages had long remained unaddressed. These include broken roads, inadequate bus services, street lighting, community halls, sewerage and water pipelines. Work to resolve them is now moving quickly, she said.

The Government’s priority is to give villages better facilities and stronger infrastructure, with opportunities comparable to those in urban areas. She said development has picked up pace over the past year, and its impact is visible on the ground.

She said the Narela Assembly constituency has seen projects worth more than `400 crore. The Chief Minister said she is a village daughter herself and understands the problems and expectations of rural families. The government will address village issues in phases, she said.

No area of Delhi would be left behind, the Chief Minister said. She said the remaining 48 villages in Delhi have also been urbanised.

On the radio programme, the Chief Minister said it is a powerful medium for inspiring the nation and encouraging public participation. She said the Prime Minister uses simple language to highlight the work of ordinary citizens, social organisations and communities. Referring to the contribution of Maharishi Valmiki, she stressed the need to familiarise young people with the ideals of great personalities.

MP Yogendra Chandolia, MLA Raj Karan Khatri and other dignitaries were present.
