Delhi Government has decided to revive Sanskrit by starting special course at the 75 Sanskrit teaching centres across Delhi. The Government has also announced to make Hindi literature clubs across the national Capital to revive Hindi reading and story-telling.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that the Sanskrit academy of Delhi Government will start a three-month certificate course for the common people of Delhi.
"The three-month certificate course will be offered at 75 Sanskrit teaching centres and there will be three two-hour sessions a week. The fees for this course will also be very nominal," Sisodia said.
In a recent reshuffle, Sisodia, who also holds the education portfolio, was given the charge of the Ministry of Arts, Culture and language. He said even though the schools teach Sanskrit till Class 10 but instead of understanding the language, there is emphasis on grammar.
"The purpose of this initiative is that the way people learn English and Urdu language to use it in their day-to-day life, in the same way, they can be motivated to learn Sanskrit…the course is being designed for the purpose of creating a passion for learning Sanskrit in the general public", the Deputy Chief Minister said.
Announcing that Government is going to open Sahitya Chakra clubs to promote Hindi, he said that people could gather and discuss the text and prose produced by Hindi litterateurs.
