Delhi to go car-free on January 22 next year

Satisfied after Delhi residents enthusiastically participated in the second edition of the "Car-Free Day" on Sunday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal vowed to soon take Car-Free Day from being symbolic to a reality and announced that the whole Delhi will hold car-free day on January 22 next year.

However, he clarified, "I am not saying that the entire Delhi will follow our appeal. Even if 5 to 10 per cent of people participate, 10 per cent pollution will come down which will be big achievements for us," he said, adding that even he will cycle to his office that day.

On Sunday, Delhi Government held the second "Car-Free Day" in Dwarka (on the road stretch between Sector 3-13 and Sector 7-9), which witnessed a cycle rally led by Kejriwal, and participation of school children, and IAS and DANICS officers.

Meanwhile, the next Car Free Day to be held on December 22 will be organised in East Delhi's Patparganj area, which is Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia's constituency.
