Delhi reported 77 Covid-19 cases and one fatality on Wednesday while the positivity rate stood at 0.10 per cent, according to a health bulletin issued by the Government.

As per the bulletin, out of 13,715 available beds in hospitals, 389 are occupied as on Wednesday while the rest are vacant. At least 76,095 tests, including 54,159 RTPCR/CBNAAT/TrueNat tests, were conducted in the last 24 hours, it said.

As many as 71 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, it said. Delhi has recorded a total of 1435281 coronavirus cases since the pandemic began last year. So far, over 14.09 lakh patients have recovered, the health department bulletin said.

“There were 688 active Covid-19 cases in Delhi and 257 people are under home isolation while the number of containment zones stood at 472,” it said. The Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Tuesday stressed that even though the cases have come down sharply following Covid-appropriate behaviour and wear masks is essential in order to prevent the onset of a third wave.

“I believe we can prevent the third wave if people abide by Covid norms. We saw a similar situation back in January-February when people thought that the cases had come down sharply As long as Covid-19 cases exist in the public the virus can spread around. The only prevention from this situation is wearing a mask,” he had said.  To detect new variants of the coronavirus and ascertain their severity, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated state-of-the-art genome sequencing facility in Institute of Liver and Biliary Services (ILBS) on Thursday.

The chief minister had also launched the first genome-sequencing laboratory in the national capital at the LNJP Hospital.

The genome-sequencing laboratory at the state-run Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital will be able to sequence five to seven samples a day, with a turnaround time of about four to five days, the government had said in a statement.
