Delhi Police starts preparing chargesheet

The Delhi Police has put the investigation of the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) demonstration at 11 Ashoka Road on fast track. The pace of investigations could be judged by the fact that the process of preparing the chargesheet has begun within two days of the incident. The Delhi Police on Friday recorded the statements of around 15 eyewitnesses in the case registered against senior AAP leaders. The police have already recorded the statements of 18 people, including the AAP leaders Ashutosh, Shazia Ilmi and Professor Anand Kumar, who have been named in the FIR.

Investigators are also scanning call data records of the AAP leaders and other volunteers in order to ascertain who circulated messages of protest to AAP supporters and the numbers that were used for sending bulk messages after former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s detention in Gujarat. The other leaders named in the FIR are Jarnail Singh and Surender Singh. Another legislator Jagdeep Singh will also be summoned for questioning in the coming days. “The MlA Akhilesh Tripathi was summoned by the Delhi Police on Friday, but he did not appear before the police. Now the investigators are waiting for him,” police sources added.

Police sources said that they have recorded the statements of five eyewitnesses and also taken the report of damaged Government vehicles from the investigators. “One of the eyewitnesses Kalpana Jha, a resident of Mukundpur, came to meet some senior party leaders at the BJP headquarters along with her husband in their Alto when the incident occurred. She told the police after parking their vehicle outside the BJP office, she went inside the office and in the meantime, suddenly the AAP protesters gathered outside the party office. They were raising slogans against the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and were being egged on by their leader Ashutosh,” Jha said in her statement.
