International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed by Joint Eastern Range of Delhi Police in coordination with Crime Branch by hosting a function at PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry Auditorium in South Delhi's Hauz Khas on Monday.

To initiate the program Dr. Jitendra Nagpal, (Program Director at Expressions India and a Senior Psychiatrist) gave a detailed presentation on the emerging challenges in high risk behaviours of Adolescents and Youths. He said that the problem of drug wipes away not only an individual but the whole family. The creamy layer of the nation (IITians and IIMs) are also dealing with this grappling problem. "It is not an individual challenge but it's the nation's challenge" he further added.

It was followed by a soul- numbing short film which focused on the painful flashbacks of a drug addict in his last moments and a theatre performance by Colour Bakery group titled "Yamraj aa rha hai". This performance was a satire and helped in lightening the mood of the audience highlighting the message 'Drug Kills'.

Thereafter, the audience was addressed by Neetu Sharma from Navjyoti Foundation who showcased success stories. Motivating addresses by real life cases of de-addiction were given by Anuj who presently conduct awareness programs with the police and Ravi of The Samadhan Foundation to eradicate this menace.

In addition to this the Joint Commissioner of Police, South eastern range RP Upadhyaya said. "this novel initiative was an inspiration from the Delhi Commissioner of Police and the Goverment of India which was committed to control and curb the menace of drug abuse and illicit trafficking and in securing wellness and prosperity". "As a policeman I request my collegues we shall do our best to fight it out and should join our hands with others to eradicate it", the Joint CP added.
