The Delhi Police has intensified vigil in an around top schools in Delhi in the wake of terrorist strike in an Army School at Peshawar in Pakistan. Following Intelligence inputs, Delhi Police has asked the schools to keep their entry and exit points sealed during school hours and monitor the entry of people inside the school. No unknown person or even parents of the children will be allowed to enter the school. Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and hit teams have been deployed outside schools and officers will personally visit schools to take a note of security arrangements. With the Christmas, New Year and Republic Day round the corner the national Capital was on a high alert already. Interestingly none of the security guards at the schools in Delhi are armed. Schools however claimed that they do not keep weapons as it instills fear among children.
The security agencies have been on their toes ever since the recent spur of attacks across the world began. With a series of events lined up in Delhi including the Christmas and New Year’s celebrations and the American President’s visit on the Republic Day an incident like this just 800 km away from Delhi has sent
shockwaves all around. The Delhi Police in order to take a control of the situation has beefed up the security arrangements in and around all top schools in the Capital. The school management has been strictly asked to keep all the exit and entry points to the school locked during the school hours. Also the QRTs and the Police Control Vans (PCR) have been asked to maintain their
position outside the schools to avoid any untoward incident. The police personnel will keep a hawk-eye vigil on the schools and track the movement of any
suspicious activities.
A message has been flashed to all the 181 police stations in the Capital asking them to deploy their men around the school. The district heads have been informed and the Station House Officer (SHO) has been asked to visit the police station personally and take a note of all the measurements. The school authorities have been asked to stay in touch with the police and inform about any
suspicious activity. “All
precautionary measures have been put at place. I can’t divulge much about the security arrangements as it will hamper it. Unobtrusive security
arrangements have been made,” said Special Commissioner
of Police (law and Order) Deepak Mishra.
Meanwhile the Special Cell and the Special Branch of the Delhi Police have been asked to work on inputs and keep a constant track of outgoing and incoming calls from international numbers and e-mails as well.
Vigil had already been heightened in the national Capital on Monday especially at public places like malls, in the wake of the hostage crisis in Sydney, Australia. According to senior police officials,
security was stepped up in malls and areas which have clusters of cafés and restaurants it was a popular café, which was targeted in Sydney. Delhi Police has already been keeping a heightened vigil after a red alert was sounded in the city on December 5 over
intelligence inputs of a possible terror strike.
