Delhi, NCR receive first rain of season

Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR) witnessed season’s first widespread rainfall on Monday evening. An induced cyclonic circulation was likely to form over West Rajasthan. This could be responsible for the widespread rainfall activities over Delhi NCR region on Monday and December 12.

“During the latter half of December 12 some clearance is expected. light spells can again be anticipated in Delhi NCR on December 13 and December 14,” Skymet predicted.

Skymet Weather has predicted that the downpours will leave a considerable measure of dampness in the air, leading to misty or foggy conditions. Moreover, the mugginess level will be high. There will be a drop in temperature and light breeze conditions will prevail.

According to Skymet Weather, light to moderate rains to lash several parts of the city will occur. In the wake of the cloud cover maximum temperatures fluctuated around 24 degrees on Monday.

Cloudy weather would prevail over Delhi NCR for the next 24 hours, with chances of on and off rains. These rains will be instrumental in bringing down the mercury, intensifying the winter chill.

The fresh spell of the rain can also be touted as the first spell of good winter rains. “All thanks to the active Western Disturbance over Jammu & Kashmir and its induced cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan and adjoining Haryana. While the former one has been giving rain and snow over the hilly States of North India, the latter one has been lashing northwestern plains with rains,” Skymet , a private weather forecast organization mentioned.

As the system moves away, weather is likely to clear up by Tuesday evening. This would pave way for icy cold northwesterly winds from snow-clad Himalayas, which would then result in significant drop in both maximum as well as minimum temperatures across North India.
