Delhi witnessed a dry Friday due to erratic weather conditions prevailing in the entire North Indian region. According to the Weather Department, the low pressure built over Madhya Pradesh gradually shifted towards Gujarat rather than coming towards Delhi, and also because the Easterly winds pushed the clouds far towards Uttar Pradesh.
“There was a high possibility of an intense system over the weekend. But, now even that of a moderate one is ruled out. The clouds have been pushed far towards Uttar Pradesh by the Easterly winds. There have been no reports of isolated rains as well, which further rules out the possibility of even light rains,” said an official of the Met Department.
“The next phase of rain was supposed to start from Friday, but the system shifted to a different location. An intense low pressure was build over Madhya Pradesh and it had to come towards Delhi and North Rajasthan. But, it rather went to North Gujarat,” he also said. Earlier this week, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted heavy showers from the evening of June 5, which were supposed to continue till Sunday evening. The Weather Department further said, “We are waiting and hoping for a new system which might form over the Bay of Bengal and may gradually move towards the North.”
However, they also claimed that light rain might take place on the night on June 8 and may continue till June 10. “The Easterly winds which have been going on in the city have not facilitated rain. From next week onwards, there is a possibility that the Westerly winds may begin which might bring rain,” said an official.
On Friday, the city witnessed a cloudy sky with cool breeze blowing throughout the day. While the maximum temperature was recorded at 36.7 degrees Celsius, the minimum was 28.3 degrees Celsius. The minimum was a notch above normal, whereas the maximum temperature hit the normal mark. The humidity levels fluctuated between 87 and 57 per cent. The expected temperatures on Saturday are 35 and 28 degrees Celsius.
The city witnessed heavy rain only on the first two days ever since the monsoon was declared. It's been over two weeks now, but rain comes just as a teaser causing much inconvenience to the people as the maximum humidity levels over the past few days remained above the 85 per cent mark.
